BOSTON, MA – February 1, 2016 - Author Jonathan Pickering and his book, 20/20: The Iraq and Afghanistan Narratives, was recently featured in the Chelmsford Independent. The article, “Q & A – Chelmsford educator pens book” was written by Margaret Smith and published on January 14, 2016 to their website. Added to this, Pickering’s Q & A was featured on the front page of the Chelmsford Independent newspaper as “Schools of Thought” published on January 10th.
Pickering’s Q & A not only talks about his work on 20/20: The Iraq and Afghanistan Narratives including a more detailed explanation of Pickering’s 8 year journey to write the book and all he learned about 21st century conflict and veterans’ affairs.
“We as a nation are responsible for our military’s actions and we need to elicit a better understanding of how these conflicts have affected not only our troops, but the nations we invade and other countries around the world. This should be done through a more rigorous cultural and political dialogue, holding those in charge responsible, and speaking with our vote that unending and ineffective war is not the answer to keeping us safe.”
In addition to discussing these political issues, the article also delivers a more personal look at Pickering’s past as a high school drop out and his battle with depression. Finally, article also discusses such intimate factors in Pickering’s life as his path from Emerson College to UMASS Lowell, moving from a journalism career to education, and how he has reached a happy medium as an educator and author.
“I don't know who I'd be without the work I've done in the classroom on both sides of the desk. Now, to be able to be in a position to push other young minds to learn and grow as I've done in my life is a passion that continues to push me to be the best teacher and writer I can be. […] My work as a writer inspires my teaching. In turn, my work as a teacher inspires my writing.”
